Pull your imagination out of your head, stretch it, make it bigger and squish it back into your head. Ok, now your ready...... Imagine YOU in the future and where you want her to be. What is your ultimate goal and aspirations for your future YOU in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years time? Seems too far away to focus on? I'm going to use weight loss as an example here but you can use any goal in your life. .So your goal is to be at that ideal weight. You've stopped and started and ended up exactly back where you are. It feels like you're having to start again or may even feel worse than when you started; demotivated and disappointed that you're here again.
Those words of self doubt creep in. 'I've never been able to lose the weight before so I'm not going to be able to get there in the future.' Your mind is focusing on your past experiences to shape your future. So why would anything change? Why would your weight loss journey be any different as you look over your shoulder in the past, carving out your future self with her limiting beliefs and self doubt. You can pick up where you left off and start climbing that hill, starving yourself and punishing your body to move more out of fear of losing control. It's all your mind can think of from the first moments of your day. Obsessing and feeling miserable? Or..... Lets start using that imagination and watching that future self. Where she doesn't think about everything she eats or whether she would fit into those jeans and spending hours on social media comparing herself to others and thinking she needs to be doing more or searching for that quick fix to get her out of this cycle. No, she's confident in who she is. She respects her body and takes care of it because she is grateful for all that her body does for her. Her choices are made through love of her mind and body. She is able to notice certain urges to skip the workout or sitting in silence to watch her thoughts as she knows these rituals fill her up and build on a better version of who she is. She doesn't have to worry about losing or maintaining weight and spends time on other ways she can grow and expand her world. It can be an overwhelming feeling focusing on the bigger picture and really getting into her mindset so start off small. With each choice you make, ask yourself what she would do? Would she choose that food or go for that walk, would she listen to her body when she's in need of a rest? Would she notice fear and negative thought patterns but take action anyway. The more you let her choose and guide your way the easier the habits begin to build. The repetition will begin to gain momentum and before you know it, you've become her because your taking action. It won't all be sunshine and rainbows as you sit on that unicorn but you know that your future self can get you through those challenges. What are you waiting for.
