A mindful picture I took when I was recently in Ubud, Bali, having a mindful moment. Do you see your path, know exactly where you want to be or even feel or know what you want but struggling to take action? Do you feel the path looks uneven, a little scary and too far to reach? Is fear and doubt winning and taking over? Not starting or procrastination is just a form of fear. Fear that you'll look stupid if you don't succeed and wrapping up your self worth in achieving your goals. You may not even think you're procrastinating and putting those blocks in, so I thought i'd highlight a few ways you might be playing it safe and avoiding taking action. Not Enough Time I hear this one a lot. You're waiting for more time to magically appear. You're not starting because your too busy. Blaming lack of time for lack of results. The only way time is going to appear for you to spend on the things you want to do is by you making the time. Scheduling it in. You could start off with small snippets and it can grow into longer blocks as you and your mind become more comfortable with it. Make it a priority if you want to grow that new or existing habit. It's the actual DOING and repetition that is important. Has there been a time when you find yourself having a little bit of time and it makes you feel uncomfortable. Time that you could be spending on your new habit but instead collapse in a heap and turn on Netflix as a distraction to hide discomfort? Those small daily habits make a huge difference in the way we feel and show up to the world. I'm cranky and disconnected when I don't meditate and at times I can feel the mind mastering up it's excuses. Money You feel like you need some help with your new habit either with learning how, accountability or a recent course you've seen to help you learn and grow. Your mind tells you 'you can't afford that' so starting your new habit isn't a reality. Look back at a time when you've really really wanted something, a new top, a holiday or a social event with friends. You're initial response is, 'I can't afford it' but you've found the money and made it happen. Sometimes, we need to invest money to achieve our new habit so perhaps it's time to stop using it as an excuse. Need To Do More Research Research is great. It can start to gain momentum and help you make the best decision for you and make your game plan clearer. However you can find yourself stuck in the research hole. Not taking action on what you've learnt as your mind tells you that you need to find out more! Act on what you've learnt and like any journey, you'll learn more as you go. Put a time scale on how long you'll give in research mode. Confidence Action creates confidence. Sitting on the idea, waiting and thinking about it a little bit more doesn't. I was terrified about moving my business online. Putting myself out there can be scary! I even filmed my first talking video last week so that my community could get to know me more personally. It wasn't the best video but i'm glad I've done it. It's going to just take practice and time. I had been putting it off for so long. As time has passed, I've really been able to just be me on my social media posts and i'm actually really enjoying connecting with so many different women. Stagnation and not taking action will deplete your confidence and self trust. Taking a baby step into the new habit will create momentum and trust knowing that you've honoured, respected what you want and stuck to it. Self trust is such an important element in growth. I hope this blog and list of ways we avoid taking ACTION has got your mind resisting but also got you questioning some of your blocks. I know I've mentioned the word ACTION a lot - its just such an important part of your habit forming journey. It is normal to put those blocks up as change is scary! I also wanted to mention my new Accountability Training. Over the years of working with many women and conversations I have with other women, the accountability element is the part they struggle with the most. 'No one will notice if I do or don't.' We just need the help to build that self trust with ourselves. ...And if you sign up in November, you'll receive 2 weeks FREE coaching! Click here to find out more.
