There's no need to spend a fortune on expensive gym equipment if you're working out at home. Just a few key essentials can provide a huge range of options when it comes to exercise variety and you'll even find you can get creative with household objects to achieve results. Some fitness equipment that can be a good idea to get due to versatility and effectiveness can include: -
1) Kettlebells My absolute favourite piece of kit of the moment! There are so many exercises you can perform with these, and they're fantastic for core strength. 2) Exercise / Gym Ball Those big bouncy ball things you see at the gym! They're really cheap to buy and again, are fantastic to have as you can use them for squats, stomach crunches, back extensions, balance - the list goes on. You can even use them to sit on instead of your chair at home to improve your posture and open up your hips and pelvis! 3) Resistance Bands These can be a really fantastic way of toning your muscles as an alternative to expensive weights that can be bulky and difficult to store in your home. The resistance on the bands can be adjusted to act just like weights do, increasing the resistance is just like increasing the weight. They can be also be used as an alternative for pull ups if you wrap them around something high up like a children's activity frame in the garden so they really can work every single muscle out. 4) The Stairs I often get my clients going with stair runs which sounds fairly easy, but believe me, they aren't! Rather than strolling up stairs in a leisurely manner, get in to the habit of running up them each time and add to that cardio level each day - it will really improve your fitness. Not only that but stairs can be used for step ups, incline and decline press ups, and tricep dips to name a few exercises. 5) The humble chair or stool Not for sitting on and having a rest! Instead use a chair for tricep dips, step ups, leg swings (swing your leg up and over the stool or chair back backwards and forwards - it really gets your heart rate going!) A chair is also fantastic if you are wanting to isolate certain muscles and concentrate on your form whilst doing shoulder presses for example.
