It's certainly getting colder and wet in Perth and you may feel like hibernating right now. However this is the best time to be working out in preparation for the hot summers we have here. To combat the cold you want to be exercising to feel energised in the dark months, getting in shape and losing weight ready for your bikini months.
The thought of venturing out to the gym may not seem the most appealing option, so why not workout at home. Personal training in clients homes in Perth is something I do everyday and the results are amazing! With a bit of creativity, you can bring fitness into your home and not even have to step into a gym.
So, how do we make our home work for us in achieving our fitness goals for the summer.
Use the furniture as your fitness equipment.
Think outside the box and consider how your furniture can be used in your exercise routine instead of buying heaps of equipment you will never use. For instance, if you have stairs. By the time you have run up and down them a few times, your heart rate will be pounding out of your chest and you will feel the muscle burn on your quads. Much more intense than a treadmill! Once that gets easier, increase the speed and quantity and even hold something heavy in your hands. You can intensively work your core muscles by planking with your feet on the sofa. Or do you fancy a hard core shoulder session- try your push ups with your feet on the sofa.
Fit exercise into your daily routine at home.
If your finding it physically impossible to find the time to exercise, then you can always squeeze in some toning before bed or first thing in the morning. Don't just stand there whilst brushing your teeth, squat at the same time. Just before climbing in bed, get into the routine of planking for as long as you can. I assure you that you won't miss those 2 minutes. Whilst food is simmering or the kettle is boiling, jump down to the floor and do a few push ups or even burpees if your feeing energetic. If you've managed to find the time to watch you favourite TV show, throw in some star jumps whist your waiting for the adverts to finish!
Choose full body exercises.
To be efficient, choose exercises that work as many muscle groups as possible such as burpees, star jumps, squat thrusts etc. Your heart rate will rise quickly, you'll use more energy and you will have had a full body workout.
Use your body weight as your equipment.
Who wants to be spending a fortune on fitness equipment when you have your own body weight to use. You have no excuses, your body weight is always with you! There are a whole selection of exercises you can perform just using your body weight. If you need a bit more inspiration, have a look into resistant bands. Many of my clients working in the mines love these as they can have a great workout in their room! I really recommend this brand as they come with a great manual! http://www.powertubepro.com.au/
Plan in a scheduled time.
If you fancy doing your workout after work. Make sure its the first thing you do when you get in. Once you sit down, you'll find so many other excuses. Make it a priority, turn on your favourite tunes and you would have done your workout before you have even thought about it.
Exercising at home can be so convenient and so much fun and you don't need heaps of room, just imagination and motivation. If your in need of inspiration then contact me and I can introduce you so many different exercises at home in a personal training session.
Don't neglect your fitness in winter, focusing on energising yourself and your body.
